There is so much to love about the holidays: the good food, the time off work, the presents... and best of all, the time spent with family! As I have grown older, I have realized just how important that time is. Even if you live in the same state as your family, everyone lives busy lives and it can be hard to make time for each other. The holidays give us all the opportunity to sit down and be grateful for what we have and the family that we have to support us everyday.
As most of you know by now, I was born and raised in Chicago and I still live here now. My mom lives in downtown Chicago so it is wonderful to have her so close. I can meet for lunch during work or spend the weekend hanging out and shopping (most of the clothes you will see on the blog I have bought with my mom with her impeccable fashion advice). However, she spends a lot of time in Serbia with her family (my aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents) so sometimes I don’t get to see her for months on end.
My dad, my step mom and my three little sisters lived in Chicago up until about 3 years ago when they moved to Napa Valley – yes, I know, SO COOL, I am very jealous. I absolutely love to visit them. Napa is beautiful and so is the house (which I totally consider my house now as well). Thankfully, they always make their way to Chicago for the holidays so it feels like everyone and everything is back home.
When you have family that lives in different places, it makes the holidays that much more special when everyone can get together and celebrate. This year I will be spending Christmas Eve and Christmas morning with my mom. We will spend Christmas Eve together walking down the Magnificent Mile and looking at all the holiday decorations and Christmas trees. We love to go out to dinner so this year we will be at Eddie V’s, a seafood restaurant in downtown Chicago (we are big seafood eaters; there's not a seafood restaurant we haven’t tried in Chicago!).
Then my dad, my step mom and my sisters get in Christmas Day!!! It’s so fun to have little sisters during this time. With Santa still in the picture, they make the holidays feel that much more magical. I am excited to spend the day with everyone, hearing the stories my sisters have about school (the twins are in kindergarten and my youngest sister is in preschool) and all the teeth they’ve lost that the tooth fairy has taken! My step mom’s family always has wonderful parties going on and I absolutely love spending time with them as well. I am so fortunate in the sense that my stepmom's family IS my family. I know that not everyone has a step parent that they get along with and I could not be luckier that my step mom is so wonderful and supportive and that her family has become such an important part of my life as well.
I would also like to thank my boyfriend Trevor and his family for taking me in for SO many holidays when my family was not around. I could not be more thankful to them for welcoming me with open arms and being a second family for me in Chicago.
I am so fortunate to have so many people that love me and are there for me during the holidays and always in my life.
I wish everyone a happy and healthy holiday season this year!!
Outfit details are below!
This super cute holiday colored plaid dress is from Amazon! It's only $26 and I am wearing a size Medium. I paired the adorable red bag with it to make the colors pop from Gap (the bag in the photo is no longer available so I have linked a similar one).
